Explore Tanzania Uganda Safari: Sanctuary Retreats 2024

Gorilla forest camp

Discover three incredible Tanzanian destinations on this wonderful safari. Your journey will begin in Tarangire, a lesser-known national park boasting some of the best elephant encounters in the whole of Africa, before traveling to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area for epic Tanzania safaris on the volcanic crater’s floor. Next is an adventure to the Serengeti via Lake Manyara National Park, enjoying phenomenal views of the wildebeest migration as well as encounters with smaller birdlife.

Go for unforgettable game drives and dining amongst the endless plains, you’ll be staying at three enticing Sanctuary Retreat camps. Sanctuary Swala Camp in Tarangire offers incredible views of a well-frequented waterhole, with gorgeous tents hidden beneath baobab trees. Then there’s Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp, ideally located near the rim of the crater and boasting easy access to the crater floor. Afterwards, you’ll spend three nights in Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp, which embodies the authentic African experience with Meru – style tents and its ability to swap between three locations to follow the migration.

Drink in the views of Tanzania’s seemingly never-ending plains, looking out for majestic elephant sauntering and grazing in the sun. You’ll have some time to relax and enjoy the camp before your first afternoon game drive. Tarangire is well-known for its jaw-dropping population of elephants, which roam alongside zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and impala, giving you a multitude of incredible sightings during your trip. Due to the camp’s secluded location you are unlikely to see many vehicles as you venture out into the National Park.

Go amongst some of Africa’s biggest and greatest wildlife. Huge herds of elephant swing their trunks in unison as they search for the nearest watering hole, whilst ginormous wildebeest graze in the shade. Elegant giraffe wander through the baobab trees – their heads poking out of the canopies, and you may even see a stealthy leopard waiting in the bush. After your day of exploration, you will head back to Sanctuary Swala Camp for dinner.

Ngorongoro Crater Camp is the perfect place for overnight while in Ngorongoro.  The Crater is an ancient volcano which three million years ago imploded leaving one of the world’s largest intact caldera, and is now one of the most beautiful settings for a safari in the whole of Africa.  Here there is a wealth of wildlife where you will be treated to sightings of huge buffalo herds, elephants, black rhinos, spotted hyenas, rare wild dogs, and cheetahs.  It is also known to have the densest population of lions. You may also be lucky enough to spot the elusive leopard as they like to spend their days around the rim and can often be seen around the Lerai Forest.

Kichakani Serengeti Camp is perfect will in Serengeti. these have all the modern and portable comforts such as handcrafted luggage, easy chairs and characterful cabinets and desks, a modern collection of first-class furniture bringing the charm of centuries-ago safari living bang up to date. In addition the camp also features a grand central canopied area where the main tent flows into lounges and dining wings. Promising awe-inspiring panoramas, the tents can be opened on the sides to reveal the soul-stirring landscape. After dinner, gather around the fire pit and exchange stories under the starry skies of wildlife encounters so far.

From Serengeti transfer to Uganda for the unforgettable gorilla experience. It is home to 340 mountain gorillas, just over half the world’s population of this critically endangered ape. The gorillas are completely wild but have become used to seeing a few humans after years of habituation.

Tracking through dense forest with steep slopes means that participants do need to be physically fit. Once the gorillas are located, you spend a maximum of one hour with them before returning back to camp. Please note only children aged 15 and above can track gorilla. Guests taking part in this activity must have a permit.

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp offers guests an unrivalled location, including the best bird and wildlife viewing in the Bwindi area. In fact Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp often receives regular visits from the gorillas themselves. For the lucky guests in camp at those times, they may have the chance for a gorilla safari encounter without even leaving Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp.

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is one of the few luxury lodges inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It is one of the only two lodges located in the real forests of Bwindi impenetrable National Park. The lodge is strategically located very close to the starting point of the gorilla trekking trails in Buhoma, just 5 minutes away. The lodge features quit a number of facilities like the main lounge with a very comfortable lounge, a bar area, dining area as well as a mini spa.

Set on a flat ridge, deep within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is a remote and atmospheric mountain sanctuary. The only accommodation located within the national park, the camp boasts an unrivalled location with exceptional wildlife and birdlife viewing opportunities. Eight tents feature queen-sized beds and generous bathtubs that look out onto the forest canopy.

Guests can sample delicious fare or enjoy an evening drink in the cozy bar and dining cottage overlooking the rain forest. In fine weather, meals are served al fresco on a raised natural platform that blends into the surroundings. A small gift shop offers a selection of locally sourced handcrafts. Forest walks to Munyaga Waterfall, as well as an interactive community visit are included, while gorilla trekking and birding walks can be arranged at an additional cost.
